Weedon PSC Forges Strategic Alliance with German Company, THIMM Display, to Provide Local Support for Customers in Europe

Posted Wednesday February 20, 2013 by sarahhowson

Weedon PSC Ltd of Hednesford, Staffordshire, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of Point of Sale (POS) packaging, has formed a strategic alliance with the German company, THIMM Display. Based in Wörrstadt, Germany, THIMM Display is part of the THIMM Group, a large producer of POS packaging and displays in Europe, with factories throughout Germany, as well as in the Czech Republic, Poland and Romania. The partnership between Weedon PSC and THIMM Display covers the creation and supply of display solutions for pan-European business. It gives the customers of both companies the opportunity to buy displays for delivery anywhere in Europe with a single point of contact either in the UK or mainland Europe.

The arrangement mirrors the way that international companies generally are moving from purchasing POS displays at a country-level to a centralised purchasing base for the whole of Europe. Customers of both Weedon PSC and THIMM Display will benefit from increased economies of scale and consistency of quality and design. The alliance of these two display companies commenced officially on 14 January. It complements the strategic network of the THIMM Group but does not affect existing partnerships.

Both Weedon PSC and THIMM Display are designers and manufacturers of high quality POS displays, offering services ranging from POS development, production and finishing to needs-based logistics solutions. In forging this alliance, each company will be better able to meet individual customer requirements by capitalising on each other’s expertise and manufacturing capabilities, from their respective local bases. For example, Weedon PSC will be able to expand its support abroad for its UK customers which are developing and producing their products in mainland Europe. The move is expected to be particularly significant for Weedon’s customers in major market areas including confectionary and snacks, health and beauty, and electronics.

This alliance underpins Weedon PSC’s steady growth in recent years. In 2011 the Midlands-based Weedon Group acquired a new packaging business in the North West of England, near Manchester – what is now the successful Weedon Corrugated Products. Weedon PSC serves major retailers and suppliers, so inevitably its customers are operating increasingly in the European market. This alliance with THIMM Display now gives Weedon PSC an effective local customer support base on mainland Europe. It represents a significant step in the internationalisation of this family-run business.

John Weedon, Managing Director of Weedon PSC, said:

“In THIMM Display we have found a European partner with similar manufacturing capabilities and the same approach to quality and customer service. As a result, we can each fulfil the other’s customers’ needs.

“This alliance has enabled us to continue our growth strategy in Europe, providing us with operational facilities in mainland Europe to support our customers there. The big advantage for our customers is that now we can fulfil their needs where it suits them best. And ordering from one central point in Europe will push down costs and ensure tighter control over colour and brand consistency.

“This alliance takes both Weedon PSC and THIMM Display to the next level in display solutions, providing an effective synergy which will give our customers world class promotional materials for POS. We are delighted to be associated with THIMM Display and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship which will bring significant benefit to our respective customers.”

Weedon Corrugated Products Ltd, the biggest independent corrugated packaging manufacturer in the North West, has launched its new website at: www.weedoncp.com.

The site includes information about the wide range of different corrugated packaging products which the company makes. There are also new pages describing in‑house design capabilities, as well as one of the Weedon Group’s unique areas of expertise – its retailer experience and knowledge of own label brand packaging requirements. The company’s green ethics, its excellent delivery record and the advantages of working with an independent, family-run business are all highlighted. The new site also includes links to Weedon Corrugated Products’ sister companies, Weedon PSC Ltd and i2i europe Ltd.

Weedon Corrugated Products, which is based in Audenshaw, Manchester, has its own integrated corrugator and specialises in high volume production runs. “Since our acquisition of the business, Weedon Corrugated Products has gone from strength to strength. We needed to update the information on the company’s website to reflect the new management and the new expertise and services which are now available to our customers.

Weedon PSC wins ‘Green’ Business Award

Posted Monday November 12, 2012 by sarahhowson

Weedon PSC Ltd of Hednesford, Staffordshire, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of Retail Ready Packaging (RRP) and Point of Sale (POS) display units, has received recognition for its environmentally-friendly practices. The company was chosen as the top Green Business/Sustainable Business in the new Cannock Chase Business Awards.

Weedon PSC has a strong environmental policy. The company aims to minimise the impact of packaging on the environment by addressing issues such as carbon footprint, waste reclamation and land fill. Weedon PSC uses water-based inks and prioritises the use of post-consumer recycled material (PCR), materials made from renewable resources, and recycled, recyclable and compostable materials. In designing packaging for its customers, the company aims for easy disposal and recycling.

The award was presented in July at The Premier Suite, Cannock by Aidan Burley, MP for Cannock Chase, and Steve Mallows of ‘the best of Cannock’, at a ceremony attended by members of the Cannock Chase business community. Weedon PSC received a Cannock Chase Business Awards branded bottle of Champagne and a framed certificate.

John Weedon, Managing Director of Weedon PSC, commented:

“As one of the largest employers in the Cannock Chase area, this award means a great deal to me and my team. We are privileged to be located to this great National Park.

“As a large manufacturing company, we recognise that our activities have a significant impact on the environment and that we have a responsibility to preserve, conserve and sustain the world we live in both today and for the future. We are therefore committed to environmental protection and sustainability.”

“We seek to minimise the impact of packaging on the environment by addressing issues such as carbon footprint, waste reclamation and land fill, maximising recycling and reducing waste.”

“For example, without compromising design, performance or protection of the product, we encourage our customers to reduce their use of materials by eliminating unnecessary packaging, extra boxes or layers, and using fewer or lighter components. As well as being good for the environment, this can actually save them money too.”

Weedon PSC is particularly concerned about the Cannock Chase environment. Earlier this year, staff from the company took part in a heathland management day organised by the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) project. Weedon PSC is a corporate member of the Cannock Chase AONB.

The Cannock Chase Business Awards were launched this year by local entrepreneur Steve Mallows, who runs ‘the best of Cannock’, and Aidan Burley, MP. The aim was to give local business success stories the recognition they deserve. The Awards were open to businesses from across the Cannock Chase region including Cannock, Rugeley, Hednesford, Norton Canes and everywhere between. Awards were made in 12 different categories, recognising the diversity of businesses in the area.

As well as winning the Green Business/Sustainable Business Award, Weedon PSC also sponsored the Independent Retailer Award.

Weedon PSC Ltd of Hednesford, Staffordshire, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of Retail Ready Packaging (RRP), is working with television vet, Joe Inglis, to launch his new range of ‘Vet’s Kitchen’ natural pet foodsJoe Inglis with Vets Kitchen RRPs

Joe Inglis is a practising vet, star of the BBC’s ‘Vets in Practice’ and is now resident vet on BBC 1’s ‘The One Show’ and ‘Live with Gabby’ on Five. He explains why he chose to partner with Weedon PSC for the launch of his new range:

“The ‘Vet’s Kitchen’ range is all about using the best natural ingredients for our pets. Weedon PSC has a strong green policy which coincides with my own environmental ethics. The company is BRC accredited for the hygienic manufacture of packaging for food products. And they are experts in RRP. Weedon PSC was the obvious choice, and we have been very impressed with the results!”

Weedon PSC is supplying RRP for Joe’s new ‘Vet’s Kitchen Little Hearts’ cat treats in chicken and fish flavours. The products have been launched in Sainsbury’s, Asda and Waitrose.

John Weedon, MD of Weedon PSC, says that the requirements of the job were exacting:

“Joe needed his products to be eye-catching in-store, easy to handle for hand-packing and strong enough to withstand the rigours of assembly and bulk palletisation.

“So we designed a smart 4-colour case for him, litho printed for impact and colour consistency, with a crashlock design for quick assembly on his packing line. Special die cut perforations ensure the packaging can withstand handling throughout the supply chain, while at the same time allowing for easy-open and display, and an attractive look on-shelf.

“We are delighted to be working with Joe Inglis and proud to be associated with his new range of pet foods.”
